The objectives of this project are to retain a consultant to update ecological mapping for the Corporations’ Regional Park system, i.e., Terrestrial Ecosystem Mapping (TEM), Sensitive Ecosystem Inventory (SEI) mapping, and Conservation Value mapping. Additional vegetation assessments and reporting are required for Burns Bog Ecological Conservation Area to support management decisions at this site. This would include more detailed field assessments of several areas affected by wildfire in 2005 and 2016 as well as areas that have been naturally revegetating since the Conservancy Area was established in 2004. The successful proponent will work with an ecosystem mapping advisor identified by Metro Vancouver to update the ecological mapping datasets, based on existing methodologies and standards.

Provisionally, and to be exercised at the sole discretion of the Corporation, the project will also complete an assessment of wildfire risk in regional parks using a range of data sources, including the updated Terrestrial Ecosystem Mapping data. The successful proponent will recommend and implement a workflow to assess wildfire risk, in terms of the probability and consequence of wildfire occurrence within regional parks.
 

A second provisional stage, also to be exercised at the sole discretion of the Corporation, may take place in a future year, to incorporate final updates to the TEM, SEI, Conservation Value mapping, and Wildfire Risk Assessment, using mapping data in production as part of separate projects and unavailable until the end of 2022.
