The Corporation requires the implementation of a pilot project for an earthquake early warning and strategic response system (EEW-SRS) to be utilized by operations staff and within the water system infrastructure. This will be a new system which will include a limited network of installed sensors and centralized software for control and analysis of monitored data and for distribution of the warning messages. The system will act as an independent network but will need to have the capability of receiving information from external networks. The sensor network will also collect, process and distribute earthquake strong motion (SM) data from sensors installed in various structures. The work includes the support and maintenance of the proposed equipment for a five (5) year period.

The purpose of the system is to: i) alert personnel and initiate automated processes using early warning data, ii) verify the intensity of the earthquake using strong motion data, iii) continue or reverse the automated process based on the strong motion data and iv) evaluate the performance of the monitored structures after the event.
